The clubs of East Sussex and the county host various events open to all members of ESSMBA. Entry forms will be sent out to clubs. If you wish to take part in any of these events then please speak to your club county representative. All events are held at Grovelands (unless specified).
ESMBA Nationals
National championship qualifiers start at county level each year between September and January where bowlers are invited to compete against each other to find the strongest from each county.
Once county qualifiers have all taken place, places are allocated to the winner and down to 4th in each county using a formula that considers number of bowlers in a county and number of entrants into the qualifiers. It is not guaranteed but generally we are awarded between 1 and 4 places.
Those players offered places then come together in a central venue to play against each other with the aim of finding the strongest players in the country across a range of disciplines.

ESSMBA (County) Competitions 2026/27
East Sussex SMBA hold an annual singles, pairs, and triples competition, with the qualifiers held between January and March. Those who qualify will play in a straight knockout on our finals weekend to determine our overall champions. There is a main and plate competition, with 1st and 2nd in their group qualifying for the main and 3rd/4th going into the plate competition. If there are more than 32 entries then unfortunately some players may not qualify.
All members are encouraged to take part and compete in a friendly and competitive environment. Entry information will be sent out closer to the events, with all details needed to enter.
