National over 55 pairs qualifiers

The second national qualifier was held at Grovelands on Saturday 30th November. 5 pairs took part with Chris Escott & Peter Winter MBE coming first, Karen Beard & Des Foord second, Dave & Thelma Hacker third and Roger Emeny & Colin Mouland forth. The finals are due to be held at Melton Mowbray IBC on 09/03/2025. Allocations will be announced once received from ESMBA

B team v London

The B team travelled to Addington to play a friendly against London. Despite a spirted performance, East Sussex fell short with the overall score going 29-11 in London’s favour, 214 shots scored by the hosts with 181 shots in reply. The highlight for the team was scoring a ‘Hot shot’ with 8 shots in a single end by the rink skipped by John Loran.

SMPT World Fours & Pairs

This weekend also saw the world fours and pairs hosted at Chelmsford by the Short Mat Players Tour. Both events saw the best short mat players in the world compete for the titles. Multiple East Sussex players took part with a four made of Les Dunster, Nigel Froud, Jeremy Leach and Ed Law. They manged to reach the quarter finals before being defeated by the eventual champions Skipped by Northern Ireland’s Gary McNabb. Paul Seaman, Glenn Harvey and Alun Thomas also took part in their teams.

The pairs was held on Sunday with Nigel Froud and Les Dunster reaching the quarter finals of the plate competition.

Coming up

This weekend sees trips for both the A and B teams to our neighbours West Sussex. The B team will be playing a friendly at Storrington on Saturday 7th December and the A team return to ICC action on Sunday 8th December at Worthing Pavilion.
