The domestic season came to a close this weekend with the annual ESSMBA finals. 52 players took part in the singles, pairs and triples this season. 54 matches were played over two days culminating with 6 finals on Sunday afternoon. The qualifying and finals were organised and ran by Graham Keeley. ESSMBA would like to thank Graham and those who assisted him in organising and running these popular events. Thanks is also extended to the competitors, who without them taking part and helping to set up and pack away, it would not be possible to hold these competitions. We hope more members are encouraged to take part in next seasons events.
Pairs
The pairs had 24 entries this season. 16 went into the main competition and 8 into the plate. The main final was between Peter Winter/Chris Escott (Pevensey) and Elizabeth Thomson/Mark Thomson (Broad Oak). This game was a tight match, with Pevensey winning in the 15th and final end. The plate was an all Crowhurst affair between Jan Waghorn/Peter Fleming and Tania Adamson/Steve Adamson, ending with victory to Jan and Peter.
Triples
The triples had 16 entries with 8 going into the main and plate respectively. The main final was between Hollington and Broad Oak. Broad Oak were victorious in a tight game that ended 11-9 after 11 ends. The plate final was between Pevensey and Foresters, finishing in favour of Pevensey.
Singles
The singles had 28 entries with 16 qualifying for the main and the remaining 12 in the plate. The singles finals were the last game of the day, with the plate being played between Peter Winter MBE (Pevensey) and Les Dunster (Hollington). A dominant display from Peter saw him take the plate with a win over Les. The main singles final was between Edward Law (Hollington) and Mark Thomson (Broad Oak). An entertaining final ended in stalemate at 14-14 after 15 ends. An extra end was required to separate the pair with the game going to the very last wood. The championship was decided by a very small margin, ending with a single shot to Edward who won 15-14.
